At the start of the Fall 2025 semester, a collaborative initiative between OIT Innovation, the Center for Distance Education, Faculty Affairs, and the Center for Research on Teaching and Learning Excellence – alongside more than 20 faculty members from across campus – launched a pilot program to explore the use of AI in the classroom and the technology that supports it. This proof-of-concept (POC) centers around nebulaONE, a flexible AI interface powered by Chat GPT-4o.
The goal of this initiative is to provide faculty with hands-on experience using course-specific generative AI models and to gather student feedback on their effectiveness. Each model is customized with syllabi, lecture materials and assignments to deliver context-aware responses tailored to the unique needs of each course. In some cases, the AI offers summaries and directs students to relevant resources rather than providing full answers, encouraging deeper engagement with course content.
This POC will help UTA prepare for future iterations of nebulaONE, which are expected to integrate directly with Canvas. By testing and refining the system now, we aim to better support both faculty and students in the evolving educational landscape.
nebulaONE also serves as a powerful platform that enables UTA to seamlessly utilize multiple large language models, such as ChatGPT, Meta and Gemini, through a user-friendly no-code interface or advanced coding options for more complex solutions.
